Some of you may have noticed a new tag trend called the "I heart Ramadan Tag". A youtuber called bubblegumhijab is the one who is behind this idea which asks a bunch of questions based on our experience and opnions of Ramadan and we answer them. Check out her instagram @bubblegumhijab to see more information about this and do try to take part!
Today I decided to take part in this so read on to find out my answers to her questions..
When
do you start getting excited about Ramadan?
I
would say about a month before Ramadan where everyone is eagerly
waiting and counting down the days for Ramadan to begin.
What
is your favourite Ramadan Memory?
About
two years ago me and my siblings had to separate and stay elsewhere
whilst our house was being revamped so I decided to stay at my
aunties. I spent about a week there with my little sister then
another 2 weeks on my own at my other aunties. I got pretty home sick
and I hadn't had a proper iftar with just me and my family yet. So I
decided to go back to my home town and stay at my cousins who lives
nearer to my house. My Big sister was staying there too and I got to
see everyone who I had missed. We all managed to stay back at the
house on the last day of Ramadan which was a really nice way to end
the month.
I
have another Ramadan memory that I would like to share which is a
little funny. Me and my sister were shopping in Manchester and we
went pass a tall man who was dressed as a statue. He offered us a
lollipop and we took it off him. Opened the packet. Put it in our
mouths. Then about two seconds later, we realised we were fasting so
we spat it out and ran to the nearest tap and rinsed our mouths.
Does
your family have any Ramadan Tradition?
Yes,
there are quiet a few things we do every year. Firstly we make sure
everyone breaks their fast and eats together. Secondly, we usually
pray Taraveeh at the mosque as there is a women and men section.
Before or during Ramadan, we set dates to go to friends or families
houses to eat Iftaar. In addition, we invite people one day to eat at
out our house for iftaar and I believe if a family who is close to
you lives far from you then you send them money for iftaar. Finally,
my mum recently told me a tradition we are going to start this year
which is visiting my sisters husbands house and bringing food with
us which we made for everyone to eat.
What
is your favourite Ramadan Food?
My
favourite has to be Kisuri which is basically rice cooked with more
water and it looks kind of like a soup. Anyway, it is also known to
be good for you. Moreover I like to have that with Sana which is
just a chickpeas dish. Both of these are always on the table no
matter which house I go to. I don't really know if that is because it
is just a bengali thing?
When
you’re fasting in the day do you think about food?
ALWAYS.
Okay, I'm slightly exaggerating and I know it's bad to think about
food as that obviously makes hunger get worse so I do try not to.
However I remember last year I was tweeting food which I was craving
at the time. I'm going to attempt not to this year though because I
did annoy a few people lol
Besides
water and dates what do you break your fast with?
I
take a big bite of Kisuri and Sana
What
do you eat for suhoor?
Just
any type of cereal that is stored in the cupboard but mainly weetabix
(If I'm bothered to wake up that is)
What
is your least favourite thing about Ramadan?
Nowadays,
Ramadan begins during summer time when the weather can be really hot
which makes me really dehydrated and obviously we can't have water
when ever we want which is a real downer.
One
thing that makes you happiest at Ramadan?
Meeting
other families and friends and eating together after a really long
tiring day
One
tip that you can give to people that are fasting?
Just
be active and kill time by doing things and motivate yourself. I
usually go out, play video games, go on my laptop and when its a few
hours till Iftaar, I will motivate myself by saying there’s a few
hours left and I know I can be patient and be okay till then.
